Join us at E.L.L.A Music Festival

EllaMusicFest.com

This weekend Becky and Ryan will be attending and videotaping the 2007 E.L.L.A Music Festival at the Rogers Building (the old DMAC at Pine and Magnolia). The event starts at 7PM Friday and Saturday, October 5th & 6th.

These are the sort of events we really love. Local artists representing a niche, but with a message strong enough to reach a wide audience. Instead of waiting a few years for this event to gain popular acclaim, you can be part of the very first adventure by our friends at Gamble Records.

There will be some amazing female-fronted bands at this festival:

Friday October 5th The Actomatics, Geri X, Victoria Lynn Shultz, Channing Deren, Jenny K. Surrounded by Wolves Saturday October 6th Raffa and Rainer, Sunny, Jen Pumo, Rachel Goodrich, Holly Riggs

Tickets are $10/day or $18/two day in advance and $12.50/day or $20/two day at the door. A Portion of Proceeds will benefit: Florida School of Herbal Studies; Simple Living Institute; The Solilla School 4 Creative Kids. Tickets are available now at Dandelion CommuniTEA, Austin's Coffee and Park Ave. CD's.

OSTV on B & S Daily Market

47 E Robinson St is the location of the new B&S Daily Market. Ryan Price talks with Manny and Ben about freshly roasted Volcano Coffee from Longwood, FL as well as a selection of beers, wine, magazines, newspapers, drinks, cigarettes, snacks and other daily needs. B&S is a fantastic alternative for those seeking a less corporate cup of coffee and friendly service. Did I mention free Wi-Fi?

OSTV 03: Taste Restaurant

In this episode Becky talks to the owner of a College Park original, Taste. Tracy explains the Small Plate format and highlights her favorite dishes. After a look at some art as part of Doug Rhodehamel’s Fungus of the Stars, Becky got to sample some of Taste’s cuisine. Taste is located at 717 Smith St in College Park, just off Edgewater Dr.

As far as food and drink go, Taste has something for everyone - spanning several cuisines and providing for all appetites, I’d bet you you can take even the most particular person and get them to grumble a bit less. The food overall is aimed at someone who appreciates paying for quality ingredients, bringing the average bill to somewhere between $20 and $30 per person. Remember that you’re meant to share, like Tapas. There are 3 seating areas (4 if you count the stage) and the bar, including a few tables outside for those cool spring and fall evenings where you can’t help but sit outside.

We’ve been hearing good things about Taste on local radio and through word of mouth for a number of years now; one can’t mention the restaurant/venue/gallery without thinking “Fish Tacos”. Recently, we noticed a large number of events taking place or relocating to this hip College Park location, and we knew we needed to get a video out ASAP to help people looking for more info on the web get an idea of what they can expect at Taste.

Some of these events include the charity auction we mentioned in the show, Monday night comedy with Absent-Minded Improv (look for an upcoming video featuring AMI), Tuesday Hookah Night, Wednesday night acid jazz with the Absinthe Trio, and live music on the weekends with promotions by Will Walker of Will’s Pub.

OSTV Still Getting Started

As our show is so new, we are still getting some of the kinks in the system worked out. Ryan and Julie put a lot of work into the first two episodes of OSTV, and the goal is to have a new show out every Monday. However, things don’t always go as planned. Expect to see the next episode in the middle of this week as we get ourselves up to speed.

We have some exciting stuff planned for release, like a piece about a new art gallery, an interview with the immortal Michael Winslow, a look at a local creative networking group, a profile about a local improv comedy night, even a long-running swing dance night in a most unlikely location. We are constantly looking for new events, groups and locations to promote, so we welcome your suggestions. Please send any information to < liberatr AT gmail DOT com >.

One of our hosts, John, is currently off on a 3-month tour of the Americas, which means he is currently in Colorado heading West. We will be checking in with John and his wife Kamrin soon, but if you can’t wait, check out FindingAmerica.TV for lots of video, live updates and their travel route on an interactive map.

Another contributor to the show, Mark, is currently in NYC auditioning for next season’s show-stopping productions. We might be hearing from Mark about some New York goings-on in addition to the regular Orlando fare, check back here for more developments in the future.

Of course, we can’t mention John and Mark without giving some love to Michelle and Becky. Michelle you know from the Film Slam episode, and we are taping Becky’s first episode this weekend. They are sharing their interests and favorite local spots with the production staff and planning new episodes, perhaps even as you read this.

Ryan, the producer, is hard at work editing and alternately scouting new locations and making connections all over town. He organizes a monthly Happy Hour called Florida Creatives that would be of particular interest to anyone watching this show. The event happens each third Monday of the month - check the website for details.

OSTV 02: Enzian FILMSLAM

Every second Sunday of the month, John Theisen and Brian Feldman host a program of short films at the Enzian Theater in Maitland by Florida Filmmakers. Winners are picked by the audience to advance to the Brouhaha Grand Slam in December. Michelle joined us and got a chance to talk with the organizers at the event.

At the January FILMSLAM, 6 Florida films were featured:
Security Deposit - Erica Matyas
Since September - Christopher Zawadzki (3rd Place)
The Blue Moon Pull (PART I) - Young Kim
Aging Imaginations - Kirk Murray
A Man in the Attic - Ali Imran Zaidi (1st Place)
SPEAKEASY - E.R. Jess

The February and March FILMSLAM events were also a great time, we highly recommend going out and supporting local film to the tune of a $5 bill. If you want to find out more about people producing video and film locally, our other blog, Orlando Video, allows creatives in Orlando to send us links to their video on the web. We have featured E.R. Jess’ group, Feedbag Films, several times now.
