Overcoming the food hangover to bring you Thanksgiving action, the SoTG, Chris, and Weasel talk up the present and future of the season.

The Harbaugh Bowl showed the 49ers as Fool’s Gold

As Thanksgiving night 2011 approached, I was excited. Don’t get me wrong, the Turkey did its job magnificently as the afternoon focus and the wine the In-Laws offer me is always very tasty. But for me I was most excited about desert. Thursday Night Football featuring the Baltimore Ravens and the San Francisco 49ers. What – you expected some speech about Pumpkin Pie?

Pilgrims Hunt Turkey, but Cowboys beat Dolphins

So it’s the Dallas Cowboys again facing off against some team on Thanksgiving that’s a complete waste of space in a game whose high point is the biggest bully against the inferior opposition they faced being given some festively themed award presented by an overly hyped and under qualified sports personality.

The Lions were Packed up Early in Green Bay Victory.

Of all the rituals that are staples of traditional modern Thanksgiving, 2 of them have been a constant (not counting a visit from or to see that weird uncle that’s in ever y family) -- good food and bad football. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that was ever happy to see such players as QB Joey Harrington, QB Jon Kitna, WR Carlos Rogers or WR Mike Williams fail (although it did contribute to some silly jokes for a few family laughs such as that Charlie Batch was sacked like the turkey when mom brought it from the store).

Snapwell: Orlando Film Festival

The Orlando Film Festival has been around for… almost 7 years now. They started with a few screenings at CityArts Factory and DMAC (Avalon Island) with the promise of moving the the new Plaza Cinema, which took years to open, though it was on the books and mostly built out their first year. Now it is growing into a great event showcasing Downtown Orlando, which we could honestly use more of. Not as large or well-established as their spring counterpart hosted by Enzian, but still a fun and enriching event.

I know Marlon and Jeff of Snapwell Films from their involvement in Urban ReThink – they even produced a promotional video to help us out.

Miracles that Fly Higher than Jets

Any NFL fan, be it casual or religious, knows the name of Denver Broncos QB Tim Tebow. Forsaken as a guaranteed bust upon his drafting last year; Crucified as a quirky experiment when he was installed for QB Kyle Orton when the struggling Broncos named him the starter; he’s suddenly seen as a Mile-High Messiah going 3-1 as a starter going into this Thursday Night Game, keeping Denver in the hunt for the AFC East Division and revitalizing playoff hopes. However, the one ‘L’ that Tebow has endured was against a solid defense where the Detroit Lions feasted on a Tebow steak during the 45-10 route. This Thursday Night match up against the New York Jets represents the first time Tebow has faced a top-level “D” since. The Jets ‘D’, however, don’t have the same offensive support as the Lions and failed to score. Broncos win 17-13.

Protestors wrestled out of a Tea Party event

I saw someone who was apparently pro-TeaParty post this video to a blog because he was proud that someone roughed up these three girls… I don’t think anyone should be proud of that. I definitely don’t have all of the backstory, but it seems like they had something to say against the speaker, a Tea Party supporter from Arizona, Sherrif Joe Arpaio. According to Wikipedia, “Arpaio has become a flashpoint for controversy surrounding Arizona’s SB1070 anti-illegal immigration act.”

The person who posted this on his YouTube channel is a Jason W Hoyt, who claims to be one of the “founding fathers” of the Tea Party Movement.

Week 10 2011

Length:
53:42

Fresh off of his interview with the Afternoon Play-by-Play with Tom and Mike on 1280 AM's Sports Fanatic in Sarasota, FL (http://www.wtmy.com/), the SoTG, Chris, and Weasel breakdown what was a wild and whacky week 10.

Improve your brain and your attitude with movement

At TEDxOrlando last week, I was very inspired by a woman who measured the affects of regular aerobic exercise on the brain – it actually improves your long-term memory. The line from her bio reads: “Wendy Suzuki holds a faculty position in the Center for Neural Science at New York University, where she also runs an active research lab.” So there.

The workout she did was called IntenSati. A little bit like spinning without the bike or zumba with a lot more yelling. Look it up.

Then I saw this post by Jessica Earley about Dance Therapy:

When I saw both of these, I was also reminded of a reference in a Daniel Pink book to Laughing Clubs or Laughter Yoga. It works. Don’t believe me?

Clinical research on Laughter Yoga methods, conducted at the University of Graz in Austria; Bangalore, India; and in the United States has proved that Laughter lowers the level of stress hormones (epinephrine, cortisol, etc) in the blood. It fosters a positive and hopeful attitude. It is less likely for a person to succumb to stress and feelings of depression and helplessness, if one is able to laugh away the troubles.
