Portable Farms

I recently came across a show on YouTube called the Next 500. According to their site, it “takes you inside the most innovative and captivating companies set to one day emerge as Fortune 500 powerhouses.” This episode was about a former executive coach who turned his gardening and fish-raising hobby into a business that produces sustainable farming supplies.

Colle Davis, the inventor of Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems, majored in the field of Renewable Natural Resources in 1972, at the University of California at Davis, and he’s been refining Portable Farms™ Aquaponics Systems for the past 37 years.

After a career as a successful entrepreneur, businessman and consultant, Colle has always made the time to continue his research to reduce the chronic problems of tank sediment, and he discovered a new pumping system that solved all the clogging problems in the fish tank and made it possible for the system to automatically remove the sediments from the fish tank without clogging the pump to grow healthier fish and vegetables. This new system made it possible to fully automate the farm using his own unique engineering, so that anyone, anywhere, could raise their own food.

Audobon Park Community Market – Monday Nights at Stardust

Audobon Park Community Market from Big Wheel Provisions on Vimeo.

music by Ratatat

The Audubon Park Community Market is the Ourlando community’s source for the best selection of truly local food, from produce and other farm goods to prepared foods, grocery items and meals. We work hard to bring you food that is grown, raised, caught, or carefully made right here in Florida, emphasizing freshness and encouraging sustainable practices. The market is a community of growers, ranchers, fishermen, chefs, artists, handicrafters, musicians and neighbors.

This weekly gathering of friends, local food, local art, live music and more takes place in the Stardust parking lot at 1842 E Winter Park Rd. Every Monday, from 6pm to 10pm, creating a place where people can come together.

Then there is this excellent video by Mark at the Daily City.

We set up a table Monday night at the market to pimp our blog to the passersby. Most people passered-by without so much as a “what is this?” or “This isn’t locally-produced goat cheese. Get out.” They took one look at me, my nose in my laptop, and my table covered in shoddy flyers and scurried past. I felt like a perfume lady at Dillards forced to spray Fergie’s latest scent on stranger’s inner wrists.

A few wanted to know about Taco Truck Taste Test. Once they learned what it was, they took a shoddy flyer. Hope they show up. Having a blog table at this market is wonderful. You see how known you are and how far you need to go. Grateful they let me set up shop once again. We’ll be back, sans goat cheese and well-designed marketing material of course.

Patriot Special Teams Leaves ‘Phins All Wet

It was only a matter of time before we featured QB Tom ‘Golden Boy’ Brady and his Patriots on Monday Night Football as they faced the Miami Dolphins at Sun Life Stadium. While this divisional matchup was between the 2nd place teams in the AFC East, it wass important to keep from falling 2 games back behind the divisional leading New York Jets after considering division records. In this battle to stay in the race it came down to 27 points in turnovers and special teams plays as the Patriots won 41 - 14
