A Night with the Girls 2

Our good friend and the website producer for the Orlando Fringe, Mark Baratelli, has returned from his tour of I Love a Piano, and he’s organizing another night of cabaret to benefit a local charity. I’m so sorry I missed the last event, because I love the female voice, but I won’t be missing this one for sure. Look for some more updates from Blogging Fringe as the event draws closer.

Here’s a copy of the event info from http://feeds.orlandosentinel.com/~r/entertainment/stage/theaterblog/~3/190728002/the-girls-women.html:

Last August a group of pretty swell women got together at Mad Cow Theatre to raise money to send Mark Baratelli and his show to the New York Fringe.

Now they’re back, and this time Laura Hodos, Luerne Herrera, Meghan Moroney and pianist Steve McKinnon are raising money for the Coalition for the Homeless.

Here’s the info:

FLCreatives Member Directory: Phase 1

I’ve taken the first step toward creating something everyone has asked for since the first meeting:
A list of everyone and their email addresses.

One easy way to get at the emails is through the Facebook group or on the Google Groups directory, but if you aren’t on either of those lists (and you should be on one of them) we now have a Wiki Page started.

http://wiki.floridacreatives.com/index.php/Orlando_members

This is not a final document, but it’s much farther along than we were. Right now it lists everyone’s first name/last initial, and if you put a website on the list, you have a link to your site.

I think in the future we will have this more tabular, instead of just a simple list, with columns. One column will be your email handle, the other your email domain - hopefully this will prevent too much spam from hitting everyone’s inbox. I was also thinking of including the zip codes in this table, just so you know if one of your new friends is really one of your neighbors.

If you want to list your last name or some other piece of information about yourself, click “Edit” and add it to the line with your name on it. I’d like to have a column in the table for “Resume Link”, certainly.

If you have any suggestions or additions you’d like to make to this, great. I think the point of this should not be to have a comprehensive database with skillsets and bios, because that’s lots of work and could much more easily maintained by each individual. Everyone is welcome to create a wiki page for themselves until we get a job board or a resume list going.

Peace,
Ryan Price

Thanks, NFI! Florida Creatives’ 12th Happy Hour Tonight

The NFI Studios blog had a very nice post about our little group today. I want to thank Lynda Raphael (any relation to Sterling?) for writing such a positive post. She even quoted Mr. Richard Florida (who is not the namesake for our group, but) whose writings are often compared with our grassroots community-building efforts here in Orlando and around the state.

Here’s some of what Lynda wrote:

creativity thrives everywhere and Florida Creatives has forged the path for creativity to flourish in our beloved Orlando. On behalf of NFi Studios we congratulate Florida Creatives and wish them continued success as they get ready to celebrate their first year in operation.

Thank you, Florida Creatives, for creating a community of innovation and offering Central Florida continued opportunities to showcase our many strengths.

NFI Studios lends a ton of support to our group - people at all levels of involvement with NFI have attended the Happy Hours and many of the other creative events happening in our community. They are a model for the kind of company we need in this state - supporting and participating at every step of the path. We salute you.

If you’re reading this on Monday the 19th, you can still make it our to the Crooked Bayou for tonight’s Happy Hour! If not, check the right sidebar on FlordiaCreatives.com for the latest events and while you’re there, link of to the wiki and add yourself or your business to the directory.

Grocery Store Wars

My friend John Rife posted a link to this video, and it was just exactly the kind of thing that makes you smile and get angry at the same time. The people who made this video must have been total geeks - Thai fighters? Tofu-D2? Really?

Anyway, the message is simple - save the organic farms, save the cheerleader - wait, maybe it’s “with great food comes great responsibility”, or… you decide.

OSTV ELLA Music Fest Teaser

The first ever ELLA Music Festival took place at the Rogers Building in downtown Orlando in October 2007. The festival was a celebration of female singer/songwriters and female fronted bands.

In this video, one of the performers, Rachel Goodrich, turns the tables and interviews our host Becky for a change! We also get a sample of Rachel’s musical stylings in the background, recorded upstairs just minutes earlier.

This is just a tiny sample of what happened at the ELLA Fest. Subscribe to OrlandoScene.TV to get updated when new videos are posted.

More videos coming out every week on Miro and iTunes. If you’d like to get involved by suggesting an event or venue for us to highlight, get in touch with us at OrlandoScene.TV - thanks for watching.

blissink – Now, that’s iRonic

blissink, have we ever met? I don’t think so, but we’ve sure bumped into each other in oh so many places around the web.

blissink is a ‘zine writer, designer and a father. The last role is important because I think his kids are doing the voices on this video. According to my friend Aleshia:

These are very violent.

It’s interesting though, because it’s not explicit, but it is very violent. We’re no stranger to desktop theatre here, and the Robot Chicken Generation is certainly blossoming through YouTube and other video sharing sites.

It appears blissink is doing a series of these Star Wars/LEGO videos. Under the banner of blissink, he’s also acted as a designer for the ELLA Music Festival, which we here at Liberatr had a bit to do with.

This doesn’t feel like a regular Orlando video post, but I’ll end it the traditional way by saying that we accept submissions, and I’d love to find out about you and your latest projects if you’re making videos in the Central Florida area. All you need to do is email me < liberatr AT gmail DOT com >.
